Service Learning experience

The service learning was a very good experience for me. I did work with kids before, but it wasn’t the same because with the kids I worked before where kindergartens student and this two girls were much older. At first it was kind of difficult because I didn’t know them and they didn’t know me ether. At first it was hard for me to communicate with them, but after we got to know each other we just got along just fine. Sometimes I was scared about the questions they would ask me, because it was hard to explain to them things that were obvious to me. Each time I was going to say something I remained myself that I was talking to little kids not older people like me.
The first project we did was the Dream Careers College. This project was kind of difficult because we couldn’t find a lot of picture in the magazines, but after all we were just fine. This activity help us to learn about each other, ask questions and decide what they wanted to be when they grow up. The girls already knew what they wanted to be, so that didn’t take long. In this activity they chose pictures and cut them, and we help them glue the pictures to the poster. I have recognized that, their poster was the pretty’s thing in the word, but they did a great jog.
The second project was the Exploring Your Dream Careers. This activity help me a lot because I learn so much from looking and searching all this information. The girls also learn that in their fields that they want to go to, that is Lawyer and Doctor they are a lot of different kinds of Lawyers and Doctors. They both pick what most interested them and after finding out all the information they were very happy and they told me that now they had more reasons to become they wanted to. This project was very informative, but sometimes it was hard to put some words in phrases that they would understand.
The third project was the Career Essay. This assignment was kind of sad for me, because I think my kids were not paying attention and they didn’t put too much effort into it. I don’t know if I didn’t explain myself, or they forgot. It was hard to help two people at the same time. I gave them all the information and they decided to do the essay at home. I talked to them and I decided to make them do it again, the second speech was better than the first one.
The fourth and the last project was the Action Plan. This project was the hardest for the girls, I don’t know why, but it was. I try to give them examples of my Action plan, but I think they were distracted by the movement that was around. And it was kind of understandable because the girls are still in elementary and they wanted to play and move around. I help them as much as I could and I think the place was not a good one to be working on that. Sometimes for kids to think, they have to be in a quiet place to think clearly.
This Learning Service was a good experience for me. It was challenging to teach the girls about the career, because I have to be prepare for each question they would had. Sometimes I have to put difficult sentences into simple sentences so they would understand. I learn a lot about the careers my kids had. I was impressed that my kids knew right away what they wanted to be when they grow up, because when I was their age I still didn’t know what I wanted to do. This College Learning activity helped me to contribute with younger students. When I work with younger students I remember me when I was that age, and I just love to do that.

**My Inspiration**

One of the people who had and have been impacting my life is my father. He always tells me to keep going and never to give up, no matter what, never give up. Sometimes when I fell like quitting I think of his words and that helps me to keep going. Everything I do, I always do it for the good of my family and of course that means that is for my own good too.

My father is a very hard worker man. I admire him a lot. He is always been a role model to me. Sometimes he is hard to get alone with, but most of the times he is good, like all of us, he has his bad days too. My father have been teaching me a lot of things that are not very usual for women, but he says that I have to learn that, because if one day he is gone, that I hope that never happens, I will take his place. I always have been the strongest of my family, I know that I am very sensitive but that stays inside of me, is something that I hide inside.

I don’t like people seeing me cry. My father is very strong, if something happens he doesn’t cry I know that he wants to, but he doesn’t because he likes to stay strong to give support to others. I want to be the same way, and I think I am the same way, because my mom says that. I keep my feelings, tears and pain to myself, that it’s always how it’s been doing.

I know that my father will guide me to college, and in my difficult times, he will be there and give me corage to keep going. I love my dad. He wants me to go to college because he didn’t have the chance to go. He had to stay home and help his parents to work. He always says that school comes first and everything else is second no matter what. He wants me to be somebody, a very important person.

I plan to be a nurse and when I make enough money I will take him out of work. I don’t want my parents to worry any more. I want to take care of them like they are taking care of me right know. I always going to be thankful with god for given me the best dad in the whole world. I love you papi!!!!!

Residence Life with Summer Scholars

The week at the Sott Residence Hall was a very good experience for me. I got to know more all the summer scholars students. I was away from home, sometimes when I had free-time I just take the time to do my homework and call my Mom. I did miss all my family, but I had a great time.

The experience of sharing suites with other three girls scared me at first, but when I got to know them better, it was great. We used to talk until like one in the morning, but we were doing our assignments too. We talk about our families and what we like and what we didn't like. One of them was very funny she made me laugh a lot.

I want to tell you a little bit about Scott Residence Hall. The food was great, I could not follow my diet. My room was great, I had a great view. We all had a great time, and I enjoyed each day living there.

I know that sometimes I had a lot of homework and instead of going to the activities I had to stay and finish my work. The activities were really fun. I don't usually go play and have fun, because I am always working. Last week was great, I am sad that the time flew and the fun time is gone. I hope one day I get to this again.
